Eddie Nketiah Shines in Arsenal-Monaco Match
Eddie Nketiah was the beau of the football match, proving himself to be a worthy replacement for Gabriel Jesus during Arsenal’s Emirates Cup clash against AS Monaco on Wednesday, 2 August.
Playing on their home turf of Emirates Stadium in London, England, Arsenal were determined to prove they could rise to the occasion after star striker Jesus recently underwent surgery for a niggling knee injury.
Midfielder Youssouf Fofana gave Monaco the lead in the 31st minute when he intercepted a cross from team-mate Mohamed Camara and headed the ball into the back of the net.
Twelve minutes later, Nketiah – replacing Jesus in the attack for a full 90 minutes – cancelled out Fofana’s opener with a close-range goal of his own, whipping the weary crowd into a frenzy.
The game between the Gunners and Les Monegasques ended on a 1-1 in normal time. However, the former copped a victory over the latter after scoring 5-4 on penalties.
Of course, the biggest talking point is Nketiah and his on-pitch prowess – will his impressive performance persuade Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta, to feature him more in future games? As always, watch this space!
